In marketing, the acronym SEO stands for search engine optimisation. Search engine optimisation is the act of optimising a website to gain more traffic in the search engines.
To put it simply, there are tons of people searching online through search engines like Google and Bing that are looking for the services your business provides, and if you rank highly for these terms, you can gain a lot of business.
Although there are many search engines which should not be ignored in any serious SEO campaign, the most important search engine to rank in for most businesses is going to be Google. The reason for this is because the large majority of people who perform online searches are performing them in Google.
Where your website ranks in Google is heavily dependent on a number of factors. These are known as the Google ranking factors.
It has been said that there are over 200 ranking Factors in Google, and although that may sound overwhelming the truth is – SEO is one of the greatest skills any marketer can learn.
Why? Well because of the sheer amount of free, highly qualified visitors it can bring into your business website.
As of 2019, there is no better way to get people who are actively looking for the services you provide to visit your website for free.
With that being said, SEO is not an easy task to perform.
And there is a lot of (what I consider to be) bad information regarding SEO online.
Many articles online will advise people trying to improve their search engine optimisation to complete a variety of tasks which in all honesty will bring very few results.
And because you’re reading this article I’m going to assume that you probably don’t have a vast experience in SEO.
Which is why I’m going to tell you the number one most important thing when it comes to SEO that I have found in all my years experience.
And that is keyword optimised content.
Keyword Optimised Content For SEO
Although this section may go slightly beyond the scope of this article, I do feel it is important to share this point with anyone new that’s looking at SEO.
Because many guides online will tell you to write a lot of in-depth content. And that’s great your content should be in depth. However if it isn’t keyword optimised you will be missing out on a ton of traffic, and you will be wasting your time.
See, I’m writing this article right now because I have found that the search term “What Does SEO Stand For In Marketing” gets a lot of searches online, and there isn’t anybody else really targeting this keyword.
I could have written a post about this topic and not optimised it around this keyword…and it would have got 0 traffic.
So never underestimate the importance of keyword research when it comes to SEO. Because SEO isnt really the magical mystery that many people make out it is. It’s actually pretty simple.
You are better off writing content that is keyword optimised around the sort of search phrases people type into the search engines.
And although all of the other things you will read elsewhere online do have an effect on your website’s SEO, having a lot of keyword optimised content on your website is by far the number one most important thing.
